Subclasses

 Description
Cuirassier troopTroop of cavalry wearing three-quarter plate armour. Weapons could include swords, pistols, carbine, and poleaxes but not lances.
Heavy lancer troopTroop of cavalry armed with lances and wearing three-quarter or full plate armour. Not used in practice during the British Civil Wars but still part of militia obligations.
Horse regimentRegiment of cavalry, consisting of several troops of cavalry of any type. Commanded by Colonel of Horse.
Horse troopTroop of cavalry described as harquebusiers, carbines, light horse or just horse. Could wear buffcoat, back and breast plate, and helmet, but not three-quarter armour. Weapons could include swords, pistols, carbine, and poleaxes but not lances.
Light lancer troopTroop of cavalry armed with lances but not wearing three-quarter plate armour. Used in Scottish armies but not in English armies.
